A couple of these intense moments during my watch. This one had one starling come in while parents were out getting food. l could here a lot of chattering from the young inside. Thinking it was Mom or Dad back with food. Luckily nothing happened.

Today l witnessed the male red headed woodpecker building the nest. He built this nest over a weeks time and the female rejected it. He then moved to the other side of this same tree and built another nest that she readily moved into. She was always close by the male as he was busy building.

Arrival of the red headed woodpecker,April 28th,2009

April 28th,2009 the red headed woodpecker arrived at my back feeder. This is the earliest it has arrived as yet. About 4 days early. Male arrives first then the female usually a week or so later. However this year she arrived the very next day. A first since 200o. l have had them here almost every year. They missed 3. But one was seen in the area one of those years,coming out of a wooded area in a local marina. 2001 they had 3 wee ones and all other years 2. This year they had 3 successful little ones.
